In Windows 11, Windows 10 & Windows 8.1, right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. Otherwise verify there are no flags in the Windows Event Viewer in this area and check that the necessary/required Services are running.Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it.
Without getting in to details since this feature requires VMware Tools the easiest thing to do might just be to uninstall/reinstall VMware Tools and or toggle the settings under the target Virtual Machine's Settings > Printers. That said when it does have issues what the best course of action is depends on the state of several things and to be honest I just find it easier to tell the user to disable the feature and set up the printer just as one would without the feature because there are several services involved that could be part of the problem as well as some other things and the troubleshooting process is relatively easy when one know what to look at/for and I have not had the time to compose a troubleshoot document to make this easier for the normal user to try and diagnose however to start standard Windows diagnostic/troubleshooting procedures apply.įrankly VMware should include comprehensive diagnostic/troubleshooting procedures for product features in the documentation for the product however Fusion's documentation leaves little to be desired and it's help file while presenting more then it getting started guide still falls short in some areas. I personally do not use the ThinPrint feature of Fusion because I feel it is in part responsible for longer Startup/Shutdown times under Windows and more importantly I have no problems installing/configuring Printers the way they have always been before this feature was implemented and as such just do not have printer related issues.ĭoes this feature have issues and does it need tweaking I guess that depends on how one looks at it but in general based on the number of posts that come up on this feature and not counting the posts surrounding the Apple Security Update that broke this feature for a while I'd have to say this feature appears to be stable and reliable and normally wouldn't need any tweaking. Does this imply that ThinPrint is known for not working - as you do not refer to some kind of tweaking it at all?
